Build on the Rock, Not the BEACH!

Jesus is my Solid For all the COVID jokes we make, and with all our civil unrest concerns, it's still pretty safe to say that life's activities are back in full swing. Maybe they aren't the full activities of choice, but busyness is returning, in force. I certainly am feeling the push to stay busy, do stuff and go places. How easy it is to get pulled in so many directions and lose hold of the most important force in our lives. We fall right back into the trap of busyness, where our attention to the relationship with the Lord falls far behind so many other things that get our full attention. “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33

I have found in my life that as soon as one area eases up that other things slide right in place of the one. It's like shifting sand. The only thing that will keep that sand in place is to introduce a solid force that will anchor the ability for everything to keep moving around. In our crazy demanding lives, the solid force needs to be Jesus Christ. He actively anchors the shifting sand and brings stability. That becomes our foundation. It doesn't shift and reform. He is the Solid that everything else depends on. “For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock?” Psalms 18:31 The value of a solid foundation is never more evident than when the storms come. We have all seen the news footage of full houses floating down the flooded rivers. Or the beautiful cliff side homes sliding into the ocean. When things are well anchored with a good foundation it withstands the test of time. It is prepared for the trials and storms that come along. It's during the good times that those foundational supports need to be established and strengthened. They need to be made ready for whatever may lie ahead. There is no greater foundation in this life than Jesus Christ. We must push back the busyness of life to establish a time of devotion and Bible reading daily. Get quiet before the Lord and learn of Him. You will gain intimacy and relationship with the God of the universe. That daily discipline is the foundation for all of life's ups and downs. Jesus said it best. “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.” Matthew 7:24
