You May Not Be Happy, But You DO Have Joy
“Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.” Romans 12:12 NLT This morning, as I have waited on the Lord nothing, seemed to prompt me to write, until I found this verse. I believe Romans 12:12 represents the best encouragement Paul could share. It represents the daily basics of Christian life. It is all-encompassing for the believer’s life. Simply put, be joyful, be patient, and pray.
We won’t be happy every day. That is just the reality of life. But, because of our hope through Jesus Christ, we can live every day full of His unspeakable joy. Happy will come and go; the joy we have in Jesus never leaves us. Only in Jesus, we find true joy. Remember, The joy of The Lord is your strength. In life, there will always be troubles—troubling events, troubling feelings and relationships, troubling health concerns, yours, and of others. There are financial uncertainties and troubling political issues, so many troubling things. And that is just a shortlist. Troubles can so easily steal our peace and ‘happy.’ But never our true joy. That comes through our salvation and entitles us to all the blessings of the Father. The joy the world didn’t give and can never take away. Troubles come and go; that’s just life. Thank you, Jesus, for your staying grace through all our troubles, big and small. Finally, Keep on Praying. Pray about everything. Jesus is our truest friend. Tell Him your troubles and your joys. Go about your day just communing with Him. The Bible refers to it as prayer without ceasing. Keep on praying and then wait for His sweet peace. Prayer is a verb. Use it as such, not a noun. Be active in prayer, and keep praying. “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians 1:6 NLT
